Overview

The Atrius Health Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Department is available to evaluate and treat a wide variety of foot problems and conditions.

Our podiatrists see patients who suffer from acute problems, such as ingrown nails, plantar warts, tinea pedis (a fungal infection of the skin of the foot), tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, gangelions, and neuromas, as well as more chronic conditions like hallux limitus, hallux rigidus, painful hammer toes and bunion deformities. Some of our podiatrists specialize in treating children’s foot problems, including in-toeing, flat feet, toe walkers, and other aches and pains related to physical activity. Podiatrists may also see sports-related problems in both children and adults. We also provide custom orthotic services.

It is important that individuals with diabetes mellitus take proper care of their feet. Patients with diabetes mellitus and other high risk foot conditions such as peripheral neuropathy and peripheral vascular disease may be seen for periodic evaluation and foot care. Your doctor can help you determine the necessity and frequency of foot care. Patients who have diabetes mellitus are encouraged to visit their podiatrist for a yearly foot examination, which evaluates the skin, circulation, sensation, and structural condition of their feet. Surgery is sometimes necessary for those diabetic patients with recurrent ulcerations, or other problems that could jeopardize the integrity of their foot or leg. Our podiatric and orthopedic teams work with vascular surgeons from affiliated hospitals to treat patients and ensure continuity of care.
