Welcome to the Family Medicine Department at Atrius Health, where our family practitioners can provide care for members of your family from newborns to seniors. Our family medicine team, comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners and licensed practical nurses, is focused on the total health of you and your family. Family Medicine is offered at several of our practice locations.
Family Medicine is another option for receiving primary care — providing continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and the family; serving male and female patients of all ages in all stages of life. A Family Medicine practice focuses on preventive care such as routine check-ups, health-risk assessments, immunization and screening tests, managing chronic illness; and long-term physician-patient relationships. Through these long-term relationships, family practitioners come to know the entire medical history of patients, which enables them to better recommend necessary treatments and coordinate care.
Family practitioners complete advanced training in pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine and other specialties so they can diagnose and treat a wide variety of acute and chronic ailments in patients of all ages. Unlike other specialties that are more limited in scope, family medicine integrates the biological, clinical, and behavioral components of health care.
