Orthotic Services

The Podiatric Medicine and Surgery department at Atrius Health offers orthotic services to help patients resolve foot, joint, and knee pain so they can perform daily activities more effectively. Orthotics are inserts that fit into shoes to alleviate or diminish many common foot problems such as:

  • Heel pain/Plantar fasciitis
  • Flat feet or high arched feet
  • Pain caused by bunions
  • Chronic injury or a sprain
  • Pain caused by running, walking, or sports

Orthotics work as shock absorbers, removing pressure and stress from painful areas in the foot and ankle. The benefits of orthotics include:

  • Promoting the proper alignment of the feet
  • Restoring balance
  • Alleviating pain in the knee, hip and lower back

One of our experienced podiatrists can evaluate your condition and then assesses if custom orthotics would be beneficial for your specific issue. If custom orthotics are needed, an impression of your feet is made and an insert is crafted to correct your unique foot problem. The custom inserts can be picked-up at the next visit.

A referral is not necessary to make an appointment with the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery department unless required by your health insurance plan. You should check with your health insurance provider in advance to see if a referral is needed to make an appointment, and to understand whether your health insurance plan covers the cost of orthotics.
