HIV Care Program at Atrius Health

The HIV Care Program at Atrius Health is an important part of the comprehensive primary care we provide to our patients. HIV specialist physicians lead a team of advanced practice clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care staff to deliver evidence-based HIV treatment to our adult patients. These clinicians coordinate closely with your Atrius Health primary care provider (PCP) to make it easier for you to receive care that is appropriate, timely, and efficient.

We offer many services to support patients living with HIV and those wanting to reduce their risk of contracting HIV, including:

  • Patient education, care facilitation, counselling, and other comprehensive support for patients newly diagnosed with HIV.
  • Ongoing treatment and monitoring for patients living with HIV.
  • Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medication prescription to prevent HIV infection.
  • Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) medication prescription and counseling to prevent contraction of STIs after a sexual encounter.
  • Education about other ways to prevent HIV and STI exposure.

If you are living with HIV, please speak with your Atrius Health PCP to be referred to the HIV Care Program and schedule an initial appointment with an HIV specialist. Appointments are available for both in-person and virtual care.

Get Help Paying for HIV Medications

  • Massachusetts HIV Drug Assistance Program (HDAP): This program helps eligible Massachusetts residents living with HIV to pay for medications and health insurance. HDAP can help pay for out-of-pocket prescription costs and insurance premiums. Please contact your HIV clinician or a member of their team if you need help completing an HDAP application.
  • Drug Manufacturer coupons and assistance programs: Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) and cost-sharing assistance programs (CAPs) are programs operated by pharmaceutical companies to provide assistance to patients in obtaining HIV medications. The National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) website has a full listing of PAPs and CAPs available to people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States.

PrEP Drug Assistance program (PrEPDAP) assists clients in need by covering out-of-pocket costs for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis medications (including co-pays, coinsurance, and deductible-phase charges). PrEPDAP can also cover the full cost of PrEP for individuals who lack health insurance or who are unwilling to use health insurance coverage due to confidentiality concerns.
