Research collaborations harnessing Atrius Health's Electronic Health Record

In collaboration with Atrius Health, The Johns Hopkins Center for Population Health IT is working to develop and test predictive models and approaches for high risk population detection and management, with a special focus on risk in the geriatric population. By using “frailty” markers previously developed by John Hopkins, researchers are able to use Atrius Health’s extensive electronic health record data to explore the relationship between social determinants of health such as social, environmental, and lifestyle factors and the impact of those factors on the health and outcomes of the elderly and frail population.

Researchers at John Hopkins are using natural language processing and machine learning techniques to examine sections of notes and sentences within the Atrius Health electronic health record. These tools will allow Atrius Health providers to identify high risk patients as well as support their clinical decision making for this at risk population.
