Getting a Vaccine at Atrius Health
The FDA amended the emergency use authorizations (EUAs) of both the Moderna and the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines to authorize bivalent formulations of the vaccines for use as a single booster dose. The bivalent vaccines combine the companies' original vaccine with one that targets the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron sub-variants. It is hoped that the bivalent boosters provide better protection against COVID-19 caused by the omicron variants currently circulating in the population and expected to be circulating in the fall and winter. The CDC has detailed information outlining who should get a bivalent booster.
BOOSTER VACCINATION AT ATRIUS HEALTH
At this time, we are anticipating a limited supply of this booster vaccine. When the vaccine is available, Atrius Health plans to offer these booster vaccines to patients who are in the practice for a routine appointment in internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics and OB/Gyn. We do not plan to hold vaccination clinics or scheduling booster vaccine appointments at this time. Going forward, we also will not be administering the previous booster vaccines we have been providing, as the bivalent booster will be the only authorized booster.
As a reminder, many locations across the Commonwealth are providing COVID-19 vaccinations, and we encourage you to use the Massachusetts Vaccination Finder to search for appointments in your area. For individuals who are unable to use the Massachusetts Vaccination Finder or have difficulty accessing the internet, you can call the state’s COVID-19 Vaccine Resource Line (Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday 9:00 AM-2:00 PM) by dialing 2-1-1 and following the prompts for assistance. The COVID-19 Vaccine Resource Line is available in English and Spanish and has translators available in approximately 100 additional languages.
