Atrius Health Endoscopy Center

Granite Medical Group was informed that Steward Health Care, owners of Quincy Medical Center, intend to close most services at Quincy Medical Center (QMC) by the end of 2014, but that there will be no immediate changes to either in-patient or out-patient services.  Those Granite Medical Group patients who have been referred to QMC for services occurring later this year or next year are likely to be affected by Steward's decision.  Granite Medical Group maintains active relationships with Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Milton and South Shore Hospital, both of which are working with us to ensure the orderly and seamless transition of patient care.  Granite Medical Group is in the process of identifying all of our patients, including those who utilize the Atrius Health pulmonary, cardiology and endoscopy services, who receive care at QMC, and we will contact the affected patients individually to ensure that current or future care continues without disruption.

Atrius Health Endoscopy Center is a comprehensive outpatient surgical facility that offers a full range of endoscopic gastrointestinal procedures.

Our procedure rooms are equipped with state-of-the art equipment to ensure the safest and the most technologically advanced setting possible. Our staff is dedicated to the highest standards of patient care. The facility offers an inviting reception area for patients and their families as well as recovery rooms that are designed for maximum comfort and privacy.

Our gastroenterologists are board certified both in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Click here to view background information on their education, residency, fellowship and current practice site.

The Atrius Health Endoscopy Center provides the following gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures:

  • Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is an examination of the colon (large intestine). This is accomplished using a camera at the end of a long tube that is inserted into the rectum and then advanced by the physician through the colon. Colonoscopy is considered the procedure of choice for colon cancer screening and at the same time removing any unwanted polyps (a precancerous growth).
  • UGI Endoscopy
An upper gastrointestinal (UGI) Endoscopy is an examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract. This is accomplished using a thin flexible tube called an endoscope which has a tiny, optically sensitive computer chip at the end. The video endoscope is inserted through the mouth and then advanced by the physician into the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.
  • Preparing for Your Procedure
In the Endoscopy Center as part of the preparation for a colonoscopy or UGI Endoscopy you will have an intravenous (IV) line started and will receive sedation. This will dispense sedation in a controlled fashion to provide patient comfort and safety. Because you will have received sedation you must have an adult accompany you home. You may not drive yourself and you may not take a taxi or a bus home.
